About Us

Tashi Delek!

A very warm welcome to Ngagyur Nyingmapa Buddhism Centre. Our centre was founded in 2002 by our spiritual leader, Yango Rinpoche, and came to realization with the help of a diverse group of people who practice Tibetan Buddhism and aspired to lead a life of compassion.

Background
Our centre is an organization dedicated to spread the teachings of Buddhism according to the Nyingmapa school lineage of Tibet:

Ngagyur translates as "lineage". Nyingmapa is the oldest school among the four main schools of Mahayana Buddhism in Tibet: Nyingmapa, Sakyapa, Kagyudpa and Gelugpa. All these schools share the same objective and basic teachings of the Buddha. The main differences lie in terms of their individual histories and practices, i.e. the different schools stem from different saintly founders; and the techniques practiced by each school are variously suited to different types of beings seeking Enlightenment. Also known as the 'White Sangha', 'Old School' or Ngkapa, Nyingmapa stems from Padmasambhava, an Indian Buddhist who is credited with bringing Buddhism to Tibet in the 8th century. This school relies on very early esoteric scriptures known as tantras and places a good deal of emphasis placed on meditation. [ref]

Mission
The mission of Ngagyur Nyingmapa Buddhism Centre is to promote the study and practice of Buddhism. Through our various programs and activities, we hope to cultivate human kindness and compassion by contributing our care to the society. Our centre functions mainly as ...

a Tibetan Buddhist temple -- to make available both the introductory and in-depth Buddhist teachings, primarily in the Nyingmapa tradition, in a manner that is accessible to the modern community.

a community centre -- to provide community services to people in need; to care for their physical and mental well-being regardless of their religious and culture orientations.

a charity institution -- to support and raise fund for the charitable activities and development of education facilities. Plans are underway to help fund a Dharma school project in Tibet.

Governance
Ngagyur Nyingmapa Buddhism Centre is a private, non-profit organization. It was established to support and fund our community activities and various charitable projects hosted by Yango Rinpoche and other visiting teachers. The centre is currently directed and managed by a volunteer Board of Directors.
